The following information came from the Lantana Town Clerk via Bill Aho: On Thursday, October 29th from 6-8 pm, there will be a workshop sponsored by the South Florida East Coast Corridor Study to discuss the potential for a train station in Lantana. The workshop will be held at the Finland House located at the northwest corner of Dixie Highway and Finlandia/Central Boulevard . The South Florida East Coast Corridor Study is evaluating the potential for passenger rail service in Palm Beach , Broward and Dade Counties . The study began in 2005 and is scheduled to conclude in 2010. The lead agencies in this study are the Florida Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration. The Federal Railroad Administration and U.S. Coast Guard are also participating, along with the 3 counties and many local governments. Please plan to attend this important workshop to express your opinions about a future train station. It could make a major difference in the economic development of Lantana. The Hypoluxo Town Council approved the first reading of a Noise Ordinance. The Ordinance, if adopted, will mirror that of Lantana. According to the Town Attorney, the portion of the Ordinance that restricts the train horn-blowing will not have any effect unless the Federal Government changes the current laws.

According to the Palm Beach Post, supporters mailed 500 coconuts to Postmaster General John Potter to protest the proposed closing of the Lantana Post Office. The Lantana Town Manager said the idea was inspired by a story that jokester friends of the Barefoot Mailman put addresses and postage on coconuts. He was then legally required to carry them to their destination asa he walked from Palm Beach to Miami.

The Lantana council unanimously approved the rezoning of the Cenacle property from residential medium density to commercial low density at the Lantana Council meeting held on September 28, 2009.

This action allows the nuns to turn over title to the developers who will file a deed restriction with the county of Palm Beach and the Lantana Resort Hotel and Spa will be set in motion.

A site plan for the resort will be submitted to the Lantana council by the end of December 2009 or the first quarter of 2010. Public hearings will then be scheduled to discuss the site plan.

A further note. The property at 1479 South Federal Highway, the former Hollywood video store is being rezoned for a Bank of America drive thru branch. This building is east of the Winn-Dixie and just north of the I-Hop restaurant in front of the railroad tracks.
