EDWARD DANIEL McCARTHY "Chip" March 2, 1921- January 8, 2010 Beloved husband of Mary Gloria Burrell McCarthy for over 66 years and exceptional father of seven children, 25 grandchildren and 11 great grand- children. A graduate of Queens College, New York, Chip was in management at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 35 years. After retirement, he worked in consulting for a number of years in the insurance and investment industry. A true American hero, Chip served our nation during World War 11 as an officer navigator in the Army Air Corps. He successfully flew 50 missions in B24s with the 376 Bomber Group including the end of the battle of Ploesti. He was born in Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield NJ and was raised in Plainfield. Gloria and Chip lived most of their married life in Douglaston, NY and then between Lakehurst, NJ and Hypoluxo Florida upon retirement. He was the former president of Aviators Post in NY, former president of the Douglaston Manor Association and served in many civic and religious societies throughout his lifetime. All who had the privilege of knowing him would agree that he was "larger than life" in all that he did and said. He is survived by his wife Mary Gloria McCarthy, his children, Judith and Ed Malin, Richard and Suzanne McCarthy, Robert and Marianne McCarthy, Peter and Kathleen McCarthy, Donna and Bob McClure, Sally and Dennis Huysman and Barbara and Kevin Donnellan, 25 grandchildren, their spouses and 11 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at Del Lago Chapel at 131 South Lakeside Drive, Lake Worth, Florida on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 2 PM to 5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 1000 Lantana Road, Lantana, Florida at 10:30 AM. The burial will take place at 12:30 PM at South Florida National Veterans Cemetery at 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, Florida.
