MOONBEAMS
A SEASONAL PUBLICATION BY AND FOR
HALF MOON BAY RESIDENTS ![]()
January 2009
On behalf of my family, and me, I want to thank all of you for your flowers, your calls, your cards and your sympathy during a most difficult time in our lives. Lou loved being at Half Moon Bay, especially at the pool with all our friends. I know it will never be the same for me without him. Half Moon Bay is a beautiful place, but what makes it so special is all the wonderful people who live there. I will never forget your kindness.
Hello Half Moon
Bay Neighbors - Welcome to Social Season 2009
Nancy Hemenway
The economy isn’t doing well. Gloom and doom seem to be everywhere, but hopefully, not here. We are thinking positively and looking forward to a season filled with fun and laughter. The Social Committee has planned some events designed to take your minds off of the woes of the world. We’re hard at work trying to make this our best social season ever. We’ve planned some new activities including Valentine’s Day potluck, and a Casino Night.
I am so thankful for having a beautiful place to live, with wonderful neighbors and, truly, the best friends ever. Here at Half Moon Bay if you need help someone is right at your door. If you want privacy you get it.
This year I have decided to devote some time to revamping the Moonbeams so that it will become something to look forward to. However, in order for this to become reality I need your help. Please provide announcements of birthday’s and anniversaries, loss of family, and other events in your lives that will be relevant to other residents of Half Moon Bay. Submittals should be in writing, either via e-mail to, themoonbeams@hmb-hypoluxo.com , or hand delivered to me.
This year we lost two special people. One, who truly loved Half Moon Bay, is Jim Burns, a longtime resident, and past Master Board President. Jim had a wonderful vision for Half Moon Bay and worked many hours to help make all of our lives better. The other is Lou Nigro who always had a smile and a willingness to help. Each in his own way helped enrich our community. We will miss both of them.
Nancy Ross and the team that updated the clubhouse deserve our thanks. The clubhouse badly needed a makeover. I don’t think any of us realize how much time it took to bring it up to date and within budget. Thank you very much for a job well done from the residents of Half Moon Bay!
I will attempt to get pictures of board members, and social committee members and post them on the bulletin board in the hallway of the clubhouse. Then, when you have questions regarding the boards or the social committee, you’ll know who to go to for what. I think it’s important for you to recognize who is who. I plan to identify each individual by function and title so you can approach the appropriate individual when in need. These ladies and gentlemen are your neighbors and volunteers. Please remember that they donate their time and energy for the benefit of Half Moon Bay.
It was an extremely hot and humid summer. Thank goodness we survived another hurricane season unscathed. The year ‘round residents are probably enjoying the cooler temps, but not the extra noise that we snow birds bring. Please remember we all live close to one another and share common facilities. Don’t slam doors. Keep your voices down. Maintain control over pets. Don’t let them run loose. Take your dogs to designated pet areas, pick up waste, and control excessive barking. Park in your assigned space, and be considerate of your neighbors. Obey posted stop signs, and please slow down and be watchful of people near parked cars.
The Social Committee sponsored a Holiday Decorating event, and provided food and drink for all those who helped. Thanks to Flo Masucci and Nancy Hemenway for all of their help.
Our community is a special place. We, the residents, make it that way. I am often told that it’s the people here that make us want to return to Half Moon Bay year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Welcome Back Party, Saturday January 10,at 7 PM. Please come meet your neighbors. We, the Social Committee, want you to enjoy being part of the community. Larry Balgro and Nancy Hemenway are the hosts for Welcome Back.
The Sunday and Wednesday BBQ’s will resume after the Welcome Back Party when all of our BBQ volunteers have returned. The first Social Committee meeting will be Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 7 PM in the clubhouse; all are invited to attend with ideas for this coming season. Stand by for announcements of other upcoming events.
