A SEASONAL PUBLICATION BY AND FOR HALF MOON BAY RESIDENTS
![]()
January 2010
Greetings everyone! The season begins! The Social Committee has a fun season planned. Our calendar is filled with things to do. Check the bulletin boards for announcements. We hope that you will participate.
Nancy Hemenway chaired the Christmas Decorating Party. As usual many “elves” volunteered to help. We appreciate their donations of time and expertise during this busy season. This year we purchased a new tree for the front entry, some new ornaments, a tree topper, tree skirt, LED lights for the Gazebo, and new bows for the wreaths around the property. The social committee provided refreshments for the volunteers. The new decorations and the food and drink were paid for with proceeds from last year’s bi-weekly BBQ’s.
Larry Balgro is the chair of this year’s Welcome Back Party. Steve & Angela, one of our favorite groups, will provide music. Free refreshments are once again being paid for with money earned at the BBQ’s. There will be a dessert potluck. This is a way for residents to show off their favorite desserts. Larry has worked very hard to provide a nice evening for us. Please thank him when you see him. We will remove the Holiday decorations Monday morning after the Welcome Back, and need volunteers to help.
Our wonderful community has impressed many visitors. We continue to work hard to make HMB a great place to live. We don’t have a million dollar clubhouse, or a fancy workout room. However, we do have a beautiful waterfront, terrific neighbors, and a community we can all be proud to be part of.
After the wet cool summer we snow birds are really happy to be here. Please be thoughtful of your neighbors. Clean the BBQ after you use it, and remember to turn off the gas. Don’t save tables and chairs for others who are not present. Turn the spa off when you leave it. Close umbrellas when you are finished with them. Place lounge chairs and chairs and tables back where you found them. Its little things like these that set a good example for yourself and others.
Our deepest regrets to residents who may have lost a loved one this year. You are in our thoughts and prayers. One never knows what tomorrow will bring. We should all be kind to our families, friends and neighbors. To those of you who have been ill, we wish you speedy recovery. If you are in need of help please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance.
The Social Committee is always looking for new ideas and suggestions for events. If you would like to chair an event or have an idea for one please attend a meeting. The first meeting will be Tuesday, January 12, at 7pm in the clubhouse
Wednesday and Sunday BBQ’s start Wednesday, January 13, poolside at noon. Once again JoMarie & Don DuBois are in charge and we have “chefs” Sam and Bob at the grills. See you there.
This July we lost Dan Fetters, a very dear friend, to HMB, Some of you knew Dan though his mother Elle who lived in the high-rise. Some knew Dan as the man who picked them up or took them to the airport or a cruise, or who drove their car here or back up north. Still others knew Dan from his help with our BBQ's or other events. Whatever your connection you knew him as a great guy. None of us had a chance to say "Goodbye". On Sunday, January 24, 2010, at 10 AM his church and minister will remember him. More information on this memorial will be posted by the pool soon. There will be a light breakfast in his honor at the clubhouse after church. Everyone is invited to attend. Call or e-mail JoMarie DuBois for more information.
A Message From The Half Moon Bay Master Association
The Master Association is primarily responsible only for the common recreational, entrance gate and similar common properties.
PROJECTS COMPLETED OVER THE SUMMER/FALL OF 2009
Entrance GateEntrance Gate We have been lucky not to have suffered any hurricanes or wind damage this year. Unfortunately, we did suffer severe electrical storm damage. Lightning strikes caused heavy damage to our entrance gate underground wiring. These problems have been repaired.
Pool Area We have repaired four leaks in the pools. Tiles around the top of the small north pool have been replaced. New umbrellas have been purchased and broken ones have been repaired. Broken or stained pool lounge chairs and other poolside chairs have been repaired and/or new ones purchased. Poolside signs have been updated and replaced. The wood deck has been resealed.
Men’s Sauna:
A new stainless steel heavy-duty sauna was installed.
Landscaping Lightning damage required the irrigation pump wiring to be replaced. The irrigation system main pressure control, “CLA”, valve has been completely rebuilt. The landscaping has been upgraded and the garden beds have been mulched.
Lift Station The master Association is also responsible for the maintenance of the sewage pumping station on our property. To prevent further sewage backup, a major overhaul of the system and rebuilding of the sewage pumps were required. Obviously this had to be done on an emergency basis.
Office Relocations In order to improve administrative efficiency, the Master Board office and the K-Hov office have been combined and expanded. The poolside emergency phone has been rewired. The original Phase I and Phase II office has been enlarged and has been relocated to the Clubhouse.
Assessments There will be no Special Assessments. The $49,800 cost of required repairs was covered from our regular Operating and Reserve accounts. In order to minimize the possibility of any future Special Assessments, Tom Hemenway, Treasurer, is in the process of negotiating a Bank Standby Line of Credit/Loan Agreement with our bank.
Have a good season,
Albert J. Eisenberg, President
