MOONBEAMS
A SEASONAL PUBLICATION BY AND FOR HALF MOON BAY RESIDENTS
January 2005
WELCOME TO THE NEW MOONBEAMS
Carolyn Palazzollo
Welcome to a new edition of MOONBEAMS, our little newsletter by and for the residents of Half Moon Bay. As another winter season rolls around, we are happy to see our snowbird friends and neighbors back at their southern homes. There are also many new faces at HMB and we wish to extend a warm welcome to our new neighbors. We hope you will enjoy your home here and join in the many social activities and become involved in our community.
For those who were here for our overactive hurricane season, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief that the hurricane season in finally over. Although several people here sustained some damage to their units, HMB seemed to have held up better than many homes in the area. Of course landscaping took quite a beating. However, compared to what it looked like right after the storms much of it held up despite the damage. Some trees are already on the road to recovery. The landscaping crew did a great job of clearing the fallen branches and other debris soon after the storms. Our beautiful new pool deck survived unscathed. It is such a classy addition to our pool area isn’t it?
Repairs around HMB will continue, but in the meantime lets all look ahead to a healthy, happy New Year. The winter season is just beginning and there is much to do! So grab your bathing suit, golf clubs, tennis racket, hop on your bike, or just sit back and relax and enjoy the best place to call home.
NOTES FROM NANCY
Nancy Hemenway
As we drove thru the gates of HMB this season, we were overjoyed to be back! What a place to call home! I often describe HMB as our little part of Paradise, and that is certainly what it is. As we arrive I always sigh and smile knowing that we are back for another wonderful season. So many people who volunteer and work so hard to make HMB the wonderful community it is certainly deserve our thanks.
I often remark that it is like a wonderful neighborhood, where everyone knows each other, where people look out for each other, where your friends become your family. If you need help, you just need to ask, if you are lonesome, come join us at any event, we welcome everyone. Remember, all of us were the new guys on the block at one time.
We worried so about all of our friends that sat out the hurricane season, we made many phone calls, only to be reassured by our neighbors that they were fine and safe. When my mom passed away I received so many cards and calls of sympathy, you all truly touched me with your sincere caring.
Welcome all new residents and old friends, we hope you will be with us for many years to come.

BINGO
Wanda Owaskow and Helen Strawson
Although we can’t remember exactly what year they started the weekly Wednesday Bingo games are one of the oldest ongoing seasonal activities here at Half Moon Bay. It’s an evening of fun, you get to know your neighbors, and you just might win!
You can play for as little as the $5.00 admission fee which includes our 6 regular games. If you’re really feeling lucky you can purchase 3 “Special” game sheets for just a dollar more. The grand finale is the “Final” jackpot. The price is $1.00 per play sheet. All prizes for all games are determined by the amount sheets sold for each category – admission, “Special”, or “Final”. More players – bigger jackpots! Sounds like fun doesn’t it?
We have a few “rules”. Games begin promptly at 7:30 PM. Players who arrive late and miss any of the regular games are still required to pay the $5.00 fee in order to participate in “Special” and “Final” jackpot games. Players must use “dabbers” to mark their Bingo sheets. Pens, pencils, or crayon markings are not permitted. “Dabbers” can be purchased from us at Bingos for $1.00 each.
As with all activities sponsored by the Half Moon Bay Social Committee the Bingo depends upon volunteers.
We need “callers”. No “caller” no Bingo. If you’re free any Wednesday night, and you’d like to help, please call either Wanda Iwasko - 585-8650 or Helen Strawson – 533-7834 You’ll have fun and your neighbors will thank you for it.
See you Wednesday!
BAREFOOT GOURMET
Anonymous
Several readers of previous MOONBEAMS issues have mentioned that they would like to see more light news, and they have suggested a restaurant review as an example of that. We listened. Following is our first attempt. Here are the guidelines that we used and intend to use in subsequent issues. The focus will be on local establishments which offer consistent quality at a fair price; and are open for both lunch and dinner. Ambiance will also be considered in order to break any ties that may arise. We trust that you will benefit from the findings of The Barefoot Gourmet.
Two Georges
728 Casa Loma Blvd.
Boynton Beach (736-2717)
Just a short ride south on Federal (HWY 1), a left turn onto Ocean Ave (A1A), and an immediate left will bring you to the Intra Coastal location of this open air restaurant, which provides complementary valet parking. The best tables are on the East side, with a splendid view of what Florida may have looked like, before the migration came to Palm Beach County. Try for a glider if you can. The service is prompt and courteous and there are two full service bars offering a fair selection of wine, beer, and mixed drinks; plus, ten "fun" specials. But… what about the food? Two Georges offers a full range of American, mostly sea food choices, with an average price for lunch at $10 and dinners at $15, without drinks. Appetizers average $8 and provide an opportunity to 'combine two' for an interesting light lunch or dinner.
The meal that your critic chose was excellent, and it is strongly recommended. The Maryland Crab Cake dinner is served on the Early Bird Menu from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM for $10.99. After six it's $ 19.99. The Early Bird version comes with a small salad (no iceberg), or cold slaw; and, a choice of either fries or rice. Take the salad and ask for steamed vegetables (95 cents extra). If you're not that hungry, a second choice is the Seafood Wrap Sandwich for $9.99. Try eating this collection of shrimp and crab salad with a fork. Who needs the wafer thin brown bread?
