An idea that those of you who are sprucing up your homes
might consider … donate your usable discards to a charitable organization
instead of putting them in the trash. It
saves room in the dumpsters, and ultimately the landfills. You can get an income tax deduction, and give
someone else the opportunity to enjoy the fruits your redecorating. I'll bet most of us have "gifts"
that have taken up residence in the corner of the closet because we just don't
have the heart to toss Aunt Gertrude's "lovely " vase into the
trash. Then there are our own impulse
purchases. What were we thinking? Think about donating the next time you have
an item that you can no longer use. Maybe
someone else can. One local organization
to consider is The Lord's Place, straight out the gate, up

NOTES FROM
Nancy Hemenway
As we enter our 3rd month of the “snow bird” season we residents of Half Moon Bay need to thank all the behind- the-scenes people who help to make our the season a success. They are not out front. They don't seek recognition. They just work quietly getting the job done.
Joan Maloney, our resident photographer seems to be present at every event. She takes great pictures, which she distributes to neighbors and friends. What would we do without her? We really appreciate her time, energy, and talent. Thank you so much. Keep those pictures coming!
Jo Marie DuBois, we all enjoy your bakery items at the Tuesday Teas. We are most grateful. Helen Berg makes her famous pound cake for the guys who golf. We are all going to miss the Bergs. We wish them much happiness in this new chapter of your lives.
Tom Hemenway helps at every BBQ doing whatever needs to be done, whether it's behind the counter or on the clean up crew. Other BBQ helpers who just show up and do whatever needs to be done are JoMarie and Don DuBois, and. Monica & Gene Dellapietro. Speaking of Monica and Gene they are here only a short time, but they make their presence known. Gene recently replaced the lock in the kitchen pantry, and Monica is always available to help with clean up. Carolyn and Pat Palazollo help at every Hernder Sausage event making sausage, cleaning up, and serving. Lou Nigro and Bob Meli are always there to help when asked. There would be no BBQ if it were not for all of our great volunteers, the Sceppas, Marinos, Hernders, Matteaces, Guttersons, and Joe Maloney who does the shopping. How about our new ice cream vendors, Bob, Sam & Jack? Every afternoon at around 3 o'clock they are at the pool offering their wares. This doesn't help our waistlines, but OH, is it good!
Judy & Bill Hartmann put together the posters, this newsletter and the Half Moon Bay Web site for us. Let's not forget Jack Quirke who volunteered to help deliver the 300 MOONBEAMS with the Hartmanns. Those stairs really give you a workout don’t they Jack?
It's difficult to imagine the amount of behind the scenes hard work that goes into each event. Flo Masucci thanks for the many times you helped with set up To all the volunteers who helped with Pasta night, those who worked on Irish night, and you who will help with the Fly Away Party, we are very grateful. I could fill pages, each of you knows who you are, and you are the hard workers behind the scenes.
From the flowers at the front entrance and around the pool area, to the new cabinets and counters behind the bar, when one tries to name names, someone is sure to be overlooked. We cannot thank you all enough for the things that you do to make our winter in Half Moon Bay FUN! It is our little bit of heaven made even better by all that care.
This year our season is short, but everyone who helped to make the season terrific has enhanced it. If you see volunteers, thank them for their efforts before you head back up North for the summer. We had a very eventful February. March is just as busy, so, lend a helping hand. April will bring many departures. Enjoy our remaining events. Continue to support our fundraisers. Most of all be kind to all of your neighbors.
NEWS FROM THE MASTER ASSOCIATION BOARD
John Sceppa
The Master Association has completed repairs to all of its fences that sustained damage during the hurricanes. A final inspection of the fences will be made by the town inspector in the coming weeks. All of the hurricane related tree trimming on Master Association property is also complete.
We wish to thank the social committee for its donation of recreational furniture during the season. We especially want to thank them for the recent donation of a freezer and small refrigerator.
NEWS FROM K - HOV
John Sceppa
The K-HOV board of directors is pleased to announce the addition of John Coffin as a new member. John lives in bldg. 109 and has been a resident for several years.
Our hurricane repair work continues. The end of March is the target for completion of most of the building roofs. Unfortunately, an industry-wide problem, a shortage of roof tiles, has added to the project's completion time.
March 21, 2005, our landscape contractor began some major landscape repairs to the property. This large undertaking will include new plantings, tree trimming and the installation of white stones along the entire back entrances of several buildings.
Several bike racks hold bikes that appear to be abandoned. These bikes are causing rust stains on the roadway. In the near future the board will issue a notice regarding this situation and recommend that these bikes be removed.

MOON BAY LIBRARY
Helen
Strawson
The library
is for all of our residents to use and enjoy.
Thanks to all who have donated books. We appreciate your contributions.
Because shelf space is limited we request that you donate soft cover books
only. The honor system prevails. Please return borrowed books so that your
neighbors can enjoy them too.
AARP 55 ALIVE
Jack Quirke
Unfortunately, I was forced to
cancel the AARP driver safety program, which was scheduled to be held in the
clubhouse on March 14th & 15th. In spite of our efforts to sign-up
attendees, I didn't gather even half of the minimum head count required by
AARP. Maybe next year the graduates of this same course in 2003 will re-up and
renew their expiring premium discount.
ANNUAL GOLF OUTING
John Sceppa
Thirty- three golfers attended the annual Golf Outing at Grand Lacuna Golf Club on Thursday, February24th. Although the day got off to a rather cloudy start the sun came out around 10 AM. It turned out to be great weather for 18 holes of challenging golf. This year's fun event was the most successful ever. Tee off was at 8 AM a buffet luncheon at the Lacuna restaurant. After lunch prizes were presented to: Gene Iwaskow, low gross, Mary Jane Quagliano, low net Calloway System, Bob Meli and Vinny Massa, low net pairs, Marty Fazio, closest to the time line, Clarence Weir and Mark Wanamaker, closest to the pin and, Joan Maloney, Most Honest Golfer.
This year's event included a donation to the Lantana Police Department's Fallen Officer Memorial Fund. Golfers and sponsors of the outing contributed $250 to the fund and the Half Moon Bay Social Committee contributed a matching $250 donation. The $500 contribution will be made on behalf of the Half Moon Bay Condo Community. A placard or stamped brick will be installed within the memorial to recognize Half Moon Bay's contribution.
Special thanks to our sponsors and the social committee for
their support of our Annual Golf Outing.

Prime Catch Waterfront Restaurant
A short ride South on
The restaurant has been open for about ten months. Prime Catch offers both inside and outside dining on the Intercoastal. If you prefer an outdoor lunch, plan on arriving between 11:30 AM and Noon. After that, the two inside levels tend to gradually fill by 1:00 PM.
The lunch menu contained a raw bar, plus thirty-five choices covering entrees, salads, and sandwiches. Your critic strongly suggests that you question your server about the preparation of you selection before you order. One guest in my party of four was completely surprised when the Chicken selection arrived fried. Your wise critic selected Middle Neck Clams, over linguini, with white wine, garlic, parsley & butter. It was delicious at $11.95. Equally high marks are also given to the London Broil, which was char-grilled and served with fresh sautéed mushrooms & red wine sauce, also at $11.95. A somewhat distant third place went to the Seafood Crepe, (shrimp & scallops poached in white wine) which came absolutely “drenched” in lobster sauce at $9.95. On balance the Prime Catch is highly recommend, with the one suggestion mentioned above.

This season really flew by didn't it? We're already busy planing for the next. We've scheduled the annual Holiday Decoration Party for Sunday, December 11th, at 4 PM. If you're are back, and need a break from your own holiday preparations, come lend a hand. In return we'll give you free pizza and soda. The 2006 Welcome Back Party will be Saturday, January 7th, at 7 PM.
All of our old favorite activities, Sunday and Wednesday BBQ's, the Pasta Night, and St. Patrick's Party, Golf Outing, and casino trips, will be back. The Super Bowl Party, tennis, bocce, bingo, book club, Red Hat's, Tuesday Teas, and other fun things, too numerous to mention, are on tap as well. We'll be bringing back, the popular, occasional Sunday poolside music, and the AARP 55 Alive driving course. We would like to add new activities such as a Health Fair and Hawaiian Night to next season's lineup. Until next season be safe and well.
